LOUD GAY DRAGON SQUEALING
"EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE sugarplum you are just too adorable!! I'm gonna squeeze and cuddle you all day! Up here above the clouds it's just you and me, dear...<3"
Ryuu hasn't really ever seen a Western dragon in person due to living so far up in the harsh wintery North, and having the busy (and pampered..) lifestyle of an elemental god - so to say the sassy noodle is beyond ecstatic to meet Rar is an understatement. That winged derg is gonna get the hugging and kissing of a lifetime!
Belated birtday art for
mystopia who just happens to be a giant Ryuu fanboy. Feels good to do traditional art as usual.
Rarenth belongs to Rar/Mystopia
Ryuu and art is mine.

Your traditional art colors are always so amazing, dude! Ryuu’s purple scales always look more alive and vibrant! (Not to mention that nose and those lips) I bet Ryuu is gonna snuggle that western dragon til he passes out from all the affection (Lord knows I would!)
Awesome to see your traditional art some more as always, bro

Guess I really need to get more traditional art finished, right? At least you own physical proof of my traditional colouring being like a punch to the face...with Ryuu no less!
Psh if anyone thinks the big fabnoodle will ease up on the overbearing affection then they don't know him at all, I mean it seems like he is totally infatuated and we both know how that usually goes ;)

Oooooh jeez, another traditional drawing from my favourite traditional artist to make my heart go all gooey because that skill is INHUMAN.
This is nothing short of stunning. First of all, I approve of the theme very much! General theme art does struggle especially on this site since any appraisal of the work falls entirely down to how it's conducted. Of course you haven't let down at all. You've got such a way with markers to bring out the best in the characters you draw. The colours are beautiful, really nicely blended (and now that I've actually seen you blend marker colours, I have a proper appreciation for how devilishly tricky it is!). The drawing's direction works really nicely; there's a flow connecting Rarenth's eyes to Ryuu's head, Ryuu's head through his body and to his tail. That makes looking at this drawing really easy and, with respect to the two characters, helps emphasise that connection between the two! There's a lot of motion in Ryuu's body too; how you've contorted his hind legs was what I noticed, although that extends to his...well, entire body I suppose! Advantage of being an eastern dragon is that the body always looks in motion!
It looks to me like you've given a lot of thought into Ryuu's skull structure; the shading really emphasises the shape of his head and helps suggest his emotions too. I'm a big fan of the shading on Rarenth's neck scales. It's brave to use such a dark colour to colour/shade because of the risk of making the colours look muddy, but you've retained the quality of the colours really well, whilst giving that strong shadow to add depth to your work.
This is a really heartfelt drawing, obvious from it being a gift for somebody you care a lot about and by the really happy atmosphere owed to its subjects. This is definitely a drawing to be proud of, a really lovely and touching drawing. <3

About Ryuu's motions, I'm glad you picked up on that! We all know he's a very excitable derg so I wanted to show that with him kicking and squirming his hindlegs, curling his claws and making sure it looked like that serpentine body is writhing and snaking around.
Thanks for complimenting the colours bud, this one does seem to pop more than usual - maybe it's the mix of dark desaturated tones with the bright colours that come with Ryuu? Either way colouring this was a treat.
As for Ryuu's skull I like to think I could draw his skeleton with confidence...I guess I should test that sometime soon ;)
As always I appreciate your in depth comments a whole bunch, thanks <3
