In this universe, humans are occasionally transported from Earth via randomly appearing portals to another universe called the Gateworld, or Camboria. But Camboria has this rule that humans cannot exist there. So they are instead transformed into any one of the many, many races native to Camboria. Such as Satyrs, demons, Elves, Beastfolk and so on.
