as an aside, I have to admit I have to write stheno as more villainous because of how good the writing has been on the show and how much diversity (I hate how much that term has been bastardized, I cringed a little writing that) has been added to the show. I mean, remember when they were afraid of zeebras in season 1? they've come a long way, they have a school/embassy where 6 different and somewhat dangerous races of other creatures are now living in the middle of pony-ville. It'd be weird to kind of have a "misunderstood and tragic" figure in that context, plus it's overdone; it's kind of like that scene where there are already 4 girls on the football team when lisa simpson is trying to grandstand and be a rebel.
also I need to mention again that this is a mirror from
ponyanony though mine are slightly downsized for easier reading, his versions are larger

something like this might have happened in the "toxic love" arc in that comic 
baronbulge did for me, but it's much more of it's own thing now. the main reason shining is a good target (arguably the best target available) is his ability to instantly produce an aura screening bubble that keeps undesirables out. have you ever watched "avengers:earths mightiest heroes"? particularly the one where the leader creates a gamma bubble that slowly grows and mutates anything inside it? well something like that happens when shining and stheno's powers get combined; when "shining stheno" creates a barrier it's not to keep things out, but trap them in. in fact I was going to call it "gamma barrier" but "gamma prison" is probably more appropriate lol.
I mean stheno can kind of do things like that already, but the fact that shining's methods are mobile, stable, energy efficient and have insane range without having to use any machinery/biotech constructs is kind of overpowered.
