Let me start by saying you are loved. Pride month is an amazing time! It's a time to come out and be proud, to stop discrimination against the LGBT+ community♡
This month of June was chosen for LGBT Pride Month to commemorate the Stonewall riots, which occurred at the end of June 1969. As a result, many pride events are held during this month to recognize the impact LGBT people have had in the world.
What does it mean for me?
Pride is very important in my life, growing up always feeling different. Kept it hidden for years, I felt if I told anyone who I was or how I felt I'd be hated and shamed.
When I did come out I was for a while, but don't let that upset you. Use this as a way to teach others who you are. When I came out as a gay man my parents didn't understand. This lead to fighting, I was put in a spot where suicide was an answer.
I talked to people though about my feelings & even saw a therapist. It helped, I realized I shouldn't fight and get angry or upset at my parents. I noticed they just didn't understand, I began to slowly teach my parents about transgender as well as teach them about the LGBT community as a whole.
As my parents learned and started to see my side as well as learning I wasnt the only person with these feeling they started to learn for themselves. They tried to understand, my mom and dad even got books on it.
They slowly warmed up and understood. They started using the correct pronouns & name, I then got the confidence to tell my family once are started to dat my boyfriend.
My family excepted me, I think the happiness moment in my life was when my grandfather called me into the living room he told me to give him a hug and he said these words
" I don't care what your gender is or what you'd like to be called because I love you for who you are and I'll always love you. You can be who ever you want, alright"
That day will always be the happiest day of my life, so see this as a stepping stone. People will always love you for who you are, if you take the time to teach others they will appreciate it. Even if they dont except you, just remeber others are out there and they will be there for you. Silently supporting you. ♡
Enjoy Pride Month
I saw all the recent pride month art coming out and honestly it makes me so happy to see how much the world is changing & how we are quickly the world is at excepting people for who they are ♡
