Odraani Wednesday
A commission for
Tanthalum of their deep see researcher snek, Laurance.
The Odraani isn't only about conquering worlds and blowing stuff up; they are avid archaeologists too, in hopes of understand the history of the planet they are conquering and blowing stuff up on.
That's how Laurence comes intro the picture; researcher at an underwater excavation site, unearthing the sunken remains of an advanced culture.
-
We had quite a few ideas going about the naga Laurence doing deep sea diving; after bouncing back and forth several scenarios, the idea of the space sneks came up, and it was an instant hit. .3.
I'm really happy with the bulkiness of the gear - even though it makes no sense with having more valves than a boiler room - as well as me 'successfully' posing a naga snake, a big bogie man of mine.
As for why is it so bright 300m underwater; floodlights I suppose
Sneks in gear: best thing ever. Fact.
Hope you'll like her!

Awesome stuff once more! Snakes in gear, indeed. :D
Also, I have to ask, have you ever considered the possibility of a naga-style snake character in scuba gear? Would it even work? Would they just get a big fin attachment for their tailtip, and a long, long long neoprene wetsuit? :}===<

Oh, I see now, she IS! O:
I had thought it was another of the legged ones that Darbaras had illustrated previously. That, and I checked on the contents of the tag 'Odraani' and only saw another legged snake, so.. *shrugs*
The harness at the start of her lower body made me think there was a crotch and legs, perhaps. @__@

Thanks a lot! :Dc
Well yee, she's a naga snake, but I have a feeling you are thinking of more of a Helena-esque look? I'd imagine the fins not only attached at the tailtip, but run along the whole body, like the fins of a moray eel? And yiss, a big long suit ofc .3.

Clearly ancient hightech floodlights with a motionscanner that somehow still works after all this time :P
It was so awesome thinking about the scenario with you :D
I can´t thank you enough for this stunning piece and for letting one of my chars "join" your world <3<3<3

Well of course! The whole ancient, stone carved looks is a facade; no wonder the spacesneks show interest in them .3.
Yiss! <3 Hope to see what you've come up with for the scene soon!
So glad you like it <3 Was really awesome to try something new; deep sea diving naga spacesnek .3. And ofc! She's welcome amongst the ranks of the odraani ^3^

It's great to finally be back, and to see you finishing the piece you were working on when I left!
Such heavy gear they have, and on top of that being a naga. This kind of things just screams "complicated as heck" on paper, but you definitely did a great job working out all the shapes and the details and making everything fit! It's... I suppose a little bit understandable people might not recognise this character as a naga, if they didn't know what they were looking for, but I still think you did a pretty good job! MAYBE if it was zoomed out just a little further, but that's really fine. So long as the commissioner is happy!
Same praise goes for all the detail in the background elements too! Very nicely done with all that, and the tablet too! Just a bunch of cool, random scribbles you came up with? Or is there some kind of hidden meaning in there?
And hey! Always nice to see more Odraani content here! But you know I might be a little biased in that regard ;)
Great work, Darbaras! Happy to be back, and to see something like this a-waiting!

Thank you man! <3
Yeah, I went a bit overboard with the suit, but I suppose it makes sense; its a high pressure suit under the immerse weight of hundreds of feets of water. Aaand yeah; I wanted to focus on the suit deets too much and the naganess didn't come through at all.
Ah! They were based on cuneiform, but they are just random scribbles haha .3.

Thank you! <3 Was much easier to get them done as I've drawn them before and got the looks figured out by now .3.
I did the colour-overlays in SAI 2, to get the underwater-looks down as well as get a desired contrast and depth and so on, all the linework and colouring we done in the old SAI

Wow, how dare! D:(
Thank you man! It really did give the scene a bit of variety in tone and to balance all that blue n green ;w;
Yissss ;w; The other troopas had some bulky gear too, but this one feels much better and well proportioned, not to mention the extra gadgets I have no idea what purpose they serve ;w;
... we needs to bring Aahnaye back into a bulky gear of some sort one day, Elise would totes approve :3c
