On Saturday, June 16th, 2018 I attended the Pasadena Chalk Art Festival with my Brother Sterling, and I just happened to see a "Familiar Face" in the Animator's Alley part of the show. Marvin is a bit unfinished, but even in the late afternoon, most the art pieces were about 75 to 80% complete. On the plus side, it was cloudy and rather pleasant, unlike Last Year when the artists were baking on the hot concrete.
By the way... The "Alien Fest 2018" was also going on at the same time of the Chalk Festival, so a Lot of the art had themes of outer space and of course "Alien" creatures from cartoons and movies. I even saw quite a few individuals wearing furry ears and tails, but if they were "Furry", into Anime or science fictional felimorphs, I'll never know. At least everyone seemed to be enjoying the event.

I was surprised to see that most the artists used pastels as well as regular, old chalk. In fact there was also liberal use of waterbased paints and even spray fixatives. I was always under the impression the artwork was going to be removed the Monday after the event. It wouldn't surprise me if they just let the images degrade naturally from the foot traffic walking over the sidewalks, daily.
