When our game master got us to create characters with the Pathfinder system I was genuinely up for it.
One of my first forays into Role Playing Games was with Dungeons and Dragons and I felt it might be refreshing to return to some old-school medieval fantasy with basic character classes and the iconic fantasy races, delving into forgotten ruins for treasure and glory.
This is what I had in mind when I rolled up the Dwarven Monk known as Warhol Backhander. However this was not how the game has turned out. Apparently our GM is using a manual where we are against our will made the founders of a settlement in some patch of wilderness.
I was not exactly overjoyed at this discovery of character responsibility. I am not used to the idea of any of my characters being responsible for anything more than themself and as many people they can count on one hand. Still I am making the best of it, at least there is exploration of adjoining hexes in search of additional resources to exploit, and the occasional monster or bandits to liven things up.
It's mainly I love writing up background stories for my characters. Sometimes they are simple and straightforward, other times they are long and involved. But this... considering how Monks of both eastern and western type usually eschew getting involved in politics and the like I simply cannot for the life of me come up with a valid reason for him to be part of taking responsibility for a bunch of political exiles and founding what basically is Fantasy-world Australia.
I originally had some ideas in my head for his background but they refuse to gel in this strange set of circumstances.
I feel like a manager in a Fantasy version of "Sim-City"
On a side not He is a good fighter, with the right die-roll he can one-shot an Owlbear with his quarterstaff. The others call him a Glass Cannon. No where as tough as a Fighter Class, but able to really put out the smackdown when called upon.
At least the talented Osato-kun https://www.furaffinity.net/user/osato-kun/ was able to take my disjointed ideas and give me an excellent drawing of Warhol that I can wrap my gameplay around.
