Floren are very simple creatures. Their only real function is to soak up sunlight and grow the plants that sprout from their heads, backs, and tails. They have no real predators or prey, and are more often found clambering across other fauna or honking curiously at strangers. Their bodies are primarily muddy or tar-like, but they will occasionally produce other textures depending on their environment: e.g. grittier or scaled in deserts, slimy in swamps, ashy/sooty near volcanos, etc. This is not always the rule, as their species is constantly changing, but it is so far the most common to see.
Quite often they are found in areas more saturated with magic, whether this is the woods or someone’s personal garden. They do not seem to reproduce, nor obviously age and die - it is theorized though that they appear sporadically due to bursts of magic and disappear as suddenly and only leave their plant-parts behind, though this is under scrutiny with the development of “tame” floren. Some see them as good luck charms or a small blessing from Hylcinth herself, and, as they are quite friendly, low maintenance and easy to find, people will keep them as pets.
Domesticated floren, unlike their wild, often plainer counterparts, have a tendency to produce more delicate plants, unique coloring, or distinct textures that cannot be found in the wild. They are usually quite sedate pets as well, as those that appear within lush gardens or greatly populated areas seem to grow very chubby and lazy with all of the attention they get. There are, occasionally, also "incubator" floren, those who do not seem to produce a plant and instead carry any round egg-like objects they can find (whether or not they ARE eggs). They seem to just want to keep them safe and warm until they hatch? No one really knows why.
AN: Floren are an open species created by me,
Bellumi. If you create/sell or purchase an adoptable floren, or in any form use the floren concept, I would appreciate at least an acknowledgement! In part because credit is important, but I also would like to see your ideas!!
