Felt I might as well post more of my stuff here, so I'll include more of my designs that focus on aspects other then the character. This fella and his Troop Transport (Kind of like air cavalry, but uglier), were part of the same series of work as a few of my other guys. Due to the sketchbook being smaller, hardcover, and difficult to scan, it lead to an odd shadow I had to deal with.
Perspective wise, I struggled a lot with the ship, and fitting it into a believable angle with the pilot. As I feel like every individual drawing should always have you try something new or hard, fitting a character, vehicle, a stretch of ground, and various debris into one cohesive image would be my challenge. Although there are many aspects I wish I could have re-done, i'm still pretty happy with what I have. With the ship, I didn't have as much planning put down in pencil as I would have liked, so a lot of the detail got cannibalized from other designs.
The ship itself is an ugly beast, based around a mix of early American helicopters, Cold War Russian ones, and a touch of "sci-fi ships that seemed to work well." There's not much to add other then that it was meant to be a slow moving troop transport with two pilots. The pilot we got in front of us has some early attempts at flight gear on him. I wasn't too sure how I was going to go around flight helmets at the time, so it's a little wonky. One of my favorite little details is the older rifle magazines lying around his feet. I started focusing more on smaller weapons later on, but I feel pretty inclined to revisit them.
