Sea Dragon (art Horomi_DarkNait)
A new dragon for my collection. a Sea dragon.
i've yet to decide name or gender, hmmmm
Mostly a water breather, has gill so they can be long times under the surface, but has lungs so they can be above surface short time, it's not dangerous if the skin gets dry but they just hate the feeling, so they prefer water.
Sometimes during storms sailors can see this dragon riding waves and flying above the waves, and that's why there is a story that this dragon causes storms, which is not true, they just love storms and they get to use their powers to fly a little, otherwise, sun would dry their skin too much. And can be seen playing with dolphins
Thanks to its fins and long tail this species is very agile underwater, and go very fast, is slow and sluggish above ground.
They usually eat fish and other underwater creatures, such as crab if available, mermaids, sharks..
Very rarely eats humans if they fall into the water, but will kill if attacked by unfortunate profit-seeking fishermen, if they can catch it that is.
Main defense is running away, but can use teeth, slap either their food or a predator with their tail, and above land let out a high pitched screech that usually leaves land-dwelling humans predators and the like deaf.
Mostly solitary creatures, but can be seen playing with dolphins and sometimes just seen racing other similar water serpents.
During mating season the male lets out a high pitch cry underwater, that only species females can understand, the stronger cry usually attracts a mate.
After a short period of dancing, courting and racing they find a secluded cave and mate. The female is pregnant up to 12 months, under this time the male usually hunts for food for the female as she is hiding, would otherwise be an easy target as she is not as agile and fast. After the period the female gives birth to a live young.
Both parents raise the child together for up to 5 years, and then in most cases, everyone goes their own ways.
But there are records of these animals forming large schools up to 30 individuals, with one alpha female, several males, and a few females.
HAs been noted that females are usually of higher ranking and more aggressive than the males.
Like humans, they also mate for fun and for socializing.
