Oh, the location was central Europe. Well, then, while cultivated plants, especially those that have weedy tendencies such as Persicaria species, can often escape from garden and be found popping up in unexpected places, central Europe indeed is an unlikely place for P. odorata to be found(unless someone immigrated from Southeast Asia or an aficionado of both gardening and Southeast Asian cuisine lives around the location). In that case, I guess the plant more likely is P. maculosa, but with shorter internodes and more pronounced spot than usual due to restricted moisture. Thanks for your reply.
