As I was thinking over about drawing over 3D renders, a thought occurred to me: I don’t have to have any fancy, finished models. I could just made a rough figure, and use that as a general guide. Which means I could have fairly detailed extra characters in scenes. In fact, this gives me a great opportunity to create comics, since I don’t have to render out a heavily detailed scene, I can just draw in the details!
So with that in mind, I took this opportunity to create a short comic I’ve had in mind for a long time involving Rita and a strange co-worker of hers, inspired, of course, by this cute image: https://imgur.com/gallery/UaNm6fv
He's inspired by Prof. Membrane from Invader Zim, albeit with a more stoic eccentricness. I’ve affectionately named him Dr. Brainium. I’ve been meaning to make him in Blender, but I’ve been procrastinating. It also didn’t help that he would only be used for a one comic for the most part, and I might not use him very much, so taking the effort to model, texture, and rig a character for one measly comic didn’t give me much motivation to make him.
But now that I can just draw out the comic, I don’t have to make a sophisticated model of him. Just piece together primitive shapes, and Bob’s your uncle!
Now that’s not to say I’m going to skimp on my character modeling. I’m still planning on revamping my old characters, and properly model now ones. But I’m not going to put much effort into any character that I either won’t feature frequently, or are just background characters.
As was I making the comic, I just tried to simply trace as I went along, even though I probably shouldn’t have done that. And I was right, by roughly the 8th panel, I pretty much went screw it, and took a more fluid and loose approach.
In retrospect, doing a comic was probably jumping the gun a bit. But it was probably for the best too, the more I draw, the more I can iron out mistakes. (Like making a comic…)

I really do feel like I have huge opportunities drawing vs. rendering, since like I've said on the previous submission, I can add and\or tweak details that would be difficult or tedious to do in CGI. I can actually create art rather than tediously worry about minuscule details that eat up a lot of my time!
