Sometimes I get asked questions on Tumblr.

Q: How should I tell my girlfriend I’m a furry(?)

A: The way I would, and have, gone about it is to just let your partner know that there is a part of yourself that is mostly kept private because of how misunderstood it is by most people. Then ask them if they know what a furry is, or bring it up in whatever way ifs comfortable for you. They will either know and get curious or not know much about it and probably get curious. If they end up judging you for it harshly, would you really want to be that close with someone who can't accept what is possibly a big part of your personality, even if it may be hidden away. Like I said in previous questions sent to me, Furry is not really a concretely defined word, so you will have to explain your own thoughts about what a furry is, how you are one, and what it is about. It may be awkward, but in my eyes not coming out of the furry closet with a partner is on par with not coming out of the gay closet. I'm not trying to shame anyone for not telling their partner, jut my personal feelings, so I got that topic out of the way as soon as I could along with being bi to my current gf.
