I thought it was high time I brought my idea for a dragon villain into the light.
This is Raze, the terrible mount for the upcoming villain in my Angeloe the Dragon universe.
I know I haven't really explained it much, but the basics of this world feature Angeloe, his two friends, and their riders as young members of a military branch that utilizes dragons to protect the country and carry out missions. I'll explain more in-depth when I upload reference sheets for the other characters. But for now, Here's a little about Raze:
Raze is a Chinese Crested Forest Dragon, native to the Changbai Mountains in Jilin. Their thick scales help keep them insulated in this often freezing terrain, as they tend to fly among the mountain peaks in search of mates. This also makes them pretty formidable opponents as cutting through those scales is no easy feat. These are some of the most social of dragon breeds, usually seeking out company or traveling in small groups. They are excellent at camouflage, burying themselves in dense foliage to appear as ancient mounds of earth and plants. Their wings are capable of dulling to a deep brown or green to assist with camouflage.
Crested Forest Dragons are quite peaceful creatures, preferring either solitude or the company of their own kind to humans. But should the need to fight ever arise, they possess 2 distinct weapons: their toe claws and erectile fangs. The long toe claws, while great for climbing, also serve to pin opponents and possibly inflict terrible wounds. The fangs fold back in the jaw while resting, but can spring forward and shoot a highly potent venom at enemies. This fast-acting neurotoxin can start working even if it only makes skin contact, though the effects take longer. At the affected sight, the flesh will swell and have an intense burning sensation. After about 10 minutes, the affected area will go numb. The victim will start to feel fatigued and confused as the venom works through the vascular system. If left untreated, the venom can kill an average-sized dragon within 8 hours and a human in 3 hours.
Their diet mostly consists of deer, wild pigs and the occasional wild cat. Hatchlings and juveniles tend to eat birds and small rodents.
Raze himself is very unusual personality-wise for his species. His egg was stolen from a conservation base by a renegade group of dragon riders. The group leader decided on keeping the Crested Forest Dragon as their personal mount. He possessed the perfect body type, but a peaceful personality would not suit the group. From the moment he hatched, he was taught to fight for everything. Pitted against various dragons to harden him (though most would classify it more as abuse), he soon developed an intense distrust of other dragons than grew into aggression as he aged. As a juvenile, he was fitted with rigs in his nose and horns for easier command while riding. He possess so many scars that he barely remembers where they all came from. Raze is cold and detached, aggressive towards most dragons and humans, and has loyalty only for his rider.
