Fielding a 1-inch calibre APDS shell, this formidable implement is more closely related to an AFV main gun than an infantry rifle.
Intended originally to be mounted on wheels as a light AT gun, the rapid evolution of mechanised armour made this weapon obsolete before it's development was complete. However, being much more portable than fully fledged ATGs this 'heavy rifle' makes it's niche as a skirmishing weapon.
The penetration power of the Sabot round is roughly 2 inchs of steel plate at 300yards provided you could hit the target ,effective use of this weapon during an ambush can easily penetrate any cavalry or infantry armours and 'most' light steamtanks.
A sophisticated recoil dampening system is empolyed in the design to reduce shoulder injuries caused by early models. Despite this, a bipod (not shown) is an essential pre-requisit to using this device with any success.

XD I don't have the military channel, and i know the .50 Barrett isn't the most powerful =P But i did not know about this gun specifically ^^ Thanks for informing me of diz weapon thingy of great boomie-ness.
XD Military prolly loves the Barrett because it's about half the weight of the Mechem, they don't have to get any special ammo for it that doesn't comply with NATO, Larger clip capacity (3 rounds vs 10 rounds), Semi-Automatic. XD But yes, I think this new weapon has a bigger boom, and snipers shouldn't have to fire 5 shots with their rifle, one shot: One kill.
But, humans r weak and cant lug around 50lbs of beauty as well as 30lbs of not-as-beautiful-beauty.
