He reached his paw for the doorknob, spun it, and pushed the door out. It swung open, revealing the sun drenched city and the sounds of life outside overwhelmed his senses.
Compulsively he took a step back, clutching his arms to hold conceal his shivers.. eyes locked warily on the world. His retreating body met the doorframe. He leaned his shaking body against it, bracing himself, and closed his eyes.
...maybe tomorrow.

I've observed the effects of this and other methods of "beating the phobia" Not many seem to work. it's better for someone to defeat it on their own terms, or for them to have support if they cannot do it themselves. Pushing someone out a door and closing it behind them isn't support >.< Gawd I'm not a doctor or anything, but I do fancy myself to have a large base-knowledge of these and other sorts of things ^,..,^ [/flaunt]

Agoraphobia is an irrational fear of being trapped in places or situations where escape could be difficult or impossible. People with agoraphobia often will not leave the house.

I dunno how it is in America, but you might wanna try some European countries, like France or Spain. Cause it's hotter in the day, everyone comes out later, so all the shops and resturants are still open and there aren't just drunkards about. It's very nice, and if you avoid the touristy places it's usually very pretty at night :p
