Eventually, the mysterious creature from the depths shrank and sunk back to them.
People of Newburyport and of the world started talking all about it.
The following day, the creature came back.
But this time, he didn't grow beyond building-sized.
And a lot of people noticed, with surprise, that he seemed... worried.
On the verge of panic, even.
He looked around, and suddenly his blank eyes locked on the municipal library.
He rushed to the building and shook it.
People inside and around ran away screaming.
And then, the creature ripped the library from the ground, with its contents, and ran away with it, back to the waters.
Needless to say, panic was reigning in the world after that.
But amidst the panicking, there was also confusion. Many witnesses were adamant that the monster waited that everyone left the library before stealing it, going as far as looking in the windows to make sure of it.
And once the wave of panic calmed down, people started wondering why the creature acted like it did, stealing a building instead of just destroying it.
And why a library, of all things?
Still, the army was sent in town with heavy weaponry, just for precaution.
And in parallel, a certain trucker managed to get a delivery assignment for Newburyport...
