Being stuffed away in a boot isn't where Novak thought he'd see himself at this point in life. But what other choice did he have? It's not like he could've told the giant Space-Fox Scavenger that vaporized his ship "Oh no, I'm fine! Thanks for the offer though!"
For the time being is was either insole-duty or death. And Novak was admittedly pretty partial to staying alive. It wasn't the most comfortable of arrangements, what with being trampled inside a boot for hours, even days, on end. But for better or for worse, he survived through it.
On the upside, he got some fresh air now and then. Which, after being cooped up in the hot and muggy environment of a laced up combat boot, felt like frigid arctic air.
Of course his work wasn't done when the boots came off. But hey, he's alive, right?
