Blast! It’s gone!
All of my finalized research and writings, gone! Someone, or something, has taken the Lycanomicon, the one book that I treasure the most. Out of all of the things I have researched, none have captivated me like the lycanthrope, or, as they call themselves amongst their own kind, Grahll. These lycanthropes, it seems, are just like everyone else for the most part, but the rumors and superstition of the masses, aided by religious prodding from churches interested in fending off any potential threat, real or imagined to themselves and their people, have demonized this… race. And believe me. I am one to know when it comes to daemons. But that is another story for another day.
Either way… I fear for my research. Such writings are considered blasphemy, because they challenge the church and local beliefs. If found, odds are that the book will be destroyed. I can only hope that is was stolen by someone, or something that will take good care of it, and use its knowledge to help change the times, and end the merciless killing of these people, as well as those only suspected of having been struck by such an affliction.
My… once again, the hour is late, and my searching for the book has made me weary. And hark. I hear wolfsong outside my window. Perhaps, tomorrow, I will gather my notes, and go out to research yet again. I hope to get closer, learn more, and write an even better book. In the morning.
The scan killed this thing's cover. Killed! All of the silver blew out and the black doesn't show up enough. However, beyond the story from our mysterious italicized friend, this book has a less fictitious story about it. This book, oddly enough, was rescued. Someone at school was tearing its middle out with an exactoblade in frustration (Midtermosis). I convinced him to instead give it to me. To me, needless destruction of books is a sin. But… this one was pretty darn beat up. Many of its pages had been gouged out in the middle. So, I decided that since it was already so beat up, I might as well make it into something. It still is something of a book, since it has a page of writing in it. But it’s also become a box to hold some of my werewolf things in.
ALSO! Before someone gets all upset with me, like at another gallery, please let me explain a couple of things that (I hope) everyone is already fairly aware of:
The first thing is that this is not 'just a werewolf version of the necronomicon' Yes, Necronomicon is a common term, popularized bu HP lovecraft's work and the Evil Dead movies, however, this is derived from two words, Necro (dead) and Nomicon, which means Book, or Book of law. Adding nomicon as a suffix does not nessecerily denote demons, nor evil. And Lycan is derived from the Greek Lycaon (as in King Lycaon, an interesting character of myth, I might add), which means wolf. Thus, It means nothing more than book of the wolf.
Also... I do NOT veiw werewolves as simply bloodthirsty monsters. My particular species, Grahll, are very much human in that they are capable of great good and great evil. Just because I draw snarly werewolves in and amongst my nice ones doesn't mean that that's the only sort I like. I draw plenty of happy wolves, and I enjoy werewolves in all senses. Bloody, spiritual, cuddly, normal, whatever.
I just figured that I'd make that clear. :)
Thank you for looking! (and putting up with my Gawd-awful long windedness)

Yes and no. The book itself was actually something of a 'rescue' so the pages (Thouhg a good many of them were torn to peices in the middle with an exacto knife) were already in a simple red cover, but I added all of the designs on the cover and inside, not to mention the black cloth trim and brass book corners.
Lycancon would be "Wolf book" or "Book of Wolves"
Lycanthropicon would be "Book of Wolfmen" or "Wolfman book"
Anthrop=Man
Lycan=Reference to greek king who was turned into a wolf by Zeus
Con=Book
Nom=Name
So that's why Dictionaries are sometimes called "Lexicon"s ^.^

Aww, you were depressed! You started to write downhill! lol
Anyways, thats a really shnazzy book, I like it! Whenever I tried to make a psuedomagickal book, I ended up just getting a binder and sticking some crappy runic cover-like printout into the clear plastic flaps on the front and back... so this is great to me. Nice art on the pages, btw

Aww, thanks :3 As for cost, I can't just give you a flat quote. It'd depend on the current costs of what is available to use, such as a blank sketchbook and leather (which would look so much better than the cloth used here), and on just how many individual illustrations you needed.
at least one per every ten pages. Mainly quick sketches and a section of anoatomy, something an individual concerned in that particular field of knowledge would make rough sketches of to illustrate the things concerned. Also, if your interested, I know of some books which you can freely obtain that concern lycanthropy (and some therianthropy in general).
It sounds like you're working on a full-on book, as opposed to a mock-up/prop like this one, and since I'm already well underway on the werewolf anatomy illustrations for my own book, I'm afraid there may be a conflict of interest.
I already have an extensive collection of books on werewolf folklore, but I'm always looking for a few more!
