They call her Sunbird. The Sunbird, usually. What started as a codename long ago became an identity.

General Sunbird. Commander of the Gryphon Legion. Bearer of The Warden's shining light. Should she choose to shine that light upon you, it may already be too late...

Sunbird is the 2nd POV character of my current serialized comic fantasy novel, The Maiden Squad. For the most part, she serves as antagonist, but it's become as much her story as anyone else's. She's the only one in all the story that understands just what their world...is, and how it came to be. She's also the character that's dragged The Maiden Squad from comic fantasy with steampunk influences, more and more into scifi terrain...

The Maiden Squad deals with a group of women, and an urd'thin, stuck working for an egotistical dragon in a world built from the ruins of old prison colonies. It's got a heavy Guardians of the Galaxy influence to the comedy, the banter, group dynamics, and general weirdness of the story. It's also got gnolls, an entire legion of gryphons, mysterious scifi tech, black powder weapons, airships, a miming lizard, a so-called princess who might be bat-shit insane, and hidden connections to a lot of other stories.
