I actually really like that idea. It would allow for some interesting character development. Like he still loves his job, but realizing he can't always do everything-- and that he has to pass on some of the work to others just so he's not getting sick.... Okay, actually, that would make for an interesting idea. Spongebob literally burning himself out to the point where he ends up getting sick and maybe taking some time to recover. And that realization of 'wow, maybe I'm not as young as i was'. Doesn't mean he becomes a jerk or anything, just realizes he has to stop and pick where his energies lie.

.... here I rambled and I don't think I ever said i like the pic itself. i do though! Especially the details like Spongebob needing his glasses for work, and his hat drooping some.

Fuck you I really like this idea but I know that 100% no one at Nick would dare to try it with the amount of thought or anything.

I love that plot so much, I hope they go with something similar for the third movie that's coming out soon. Funny thing is, I remember some old official merch (I think they were stickers) that made his uniform longer and gave him a five-o-clock shadow and showed him being exhausted from overwork.
