I've only heard one good version of "Hair" and it was my sister's high school... and even then, the school was famous for its choir and revamped the songs dramatically (an absolutely terrifying atonal chant of "Beads, flowers, freedom, happiness..." that musical only works when the hippies are a scary, overwhelming mass so the dippy-ass music has something to play against).
