Hallen had been scoping the manor out for weeks. It was easy to convince her captain and crew to give her the time she needed. Over the years they had learned to trust her completely. In this time she learned not only all the guard's patrol areas, habits and schedules but the location of the artifact she was after. She spied it through a window on the second floor, resting on a desk in what appeared to be a research library.
Just as planned the moon had entered its New Moon phase, covering the land in darkness. It was on this night that she would make her move. Like a phantom, she quickly and silently made her way across the manor grounds and through an open window. Using her acute hearing to avoid guards she made her way through the manor and to the research library. She tried the door handle. Locked. Reaching into her kit she extracted her tools and made short work of the lock.
She slowly opened the door and stuck her head inside. She moved her ears about listening for the slightest sounds. Nothing. As expected, the room was empty but one can never be too careful. She made her way across to the desk. There it was, the artifact her crew had been searching for.
Made of solid gold the artifact felt cool in her hands. It was a nice piece. Good weight, solid craftsmanship. It could fetch some serious coin on the open market or make her captain a nice paper weight. However, the artifact's true value was not in its material or craftsmanship. It was the key inside that Hallen and her crew were truly after...

A YCH I grabbed back in Jan 2017 featuring my arctic vixen character Hallen. Hallen is the first and currently only one of my characters that I had a hand in designing.
