every time I see one of those buggars I remember a car trip I took with my grandfather in his caddy with the big flat gril. At the end of it we had a horrible smelling graveyard of poor twitching bugs burnt onto it... so sad...

But that one wasnt one of those! they're awsome.

S & I were hiking through the mountains and we came across a field full of dragonflies... tons of them. We came back through a few days later right as a storm was coming through the area and they had all landed... apparently they symbolize change...

Hmmm. Judging from the width of the dorsal stripe, it most closely resembles a female Emperor Dragonfly, Anax imperator, which is a European species. If the photo was taken in the US, then it's probably a female Green Darner, Anax junius.

Holy cow, I'm such a nerd. ;)

Or would that be "pornaissance"? :) And on a (doubly) related topic, did you know that the end of a dragonfly's penis is shaped like a shovel in order to scoop out a rival male's sperm? :)
