Finally managed to re-locate this picture on my old computer. I hadn't been able to upload it to my other account yet <3 Please excuse the slip of paper on the bottom left. It was required for the contest entry and we forgot to take pics without it after, ahaha!
A while back, Ponyisland.net was having its annual birthday celebration which includes a large art competition. Mixed media was added as a new category in recent years and I thought I'd actually give it a go since I never do. The site has various pony breeds, so I chose a reindeer pony to work with.
With a commission list to work through already, I didn't feel right with the idea of taking extra time to make multiple tests until the pattern was perfected. Then I had an idea....let's try a one-test challenge. Pretty self explanatory, the first pattern draft was the one I'd use excluding very minor tweaks that didn't require a second test. I needed to make a first test to see if it was worth going through with a final result, determining embroidery placement, etc. Beyond that, no more testing.
This was a really ambitious pattern to work with. The body is an asymmetrical, rearing pattern. I've never done either of those before, so I really wasn't sure how this would turn out. In the end, I was quite pleased and proceeded to use whatever colors I had on hand for the final outcome.
With the theme being masquerade, she also needed her mask, which I was also thrilled with!
Very happy with this plush, especially since she was a huge learning experience. We snapped photos with Christmas lights in the background to give more of a celebration/party look. As a fun fact, she was able to stand completely on her own until the antlers were added! Even then, we were able to sometimes get her to stand, but it took several attempts and didn't last long so we made her a lovely little golden party box for support.
Thanks for looking!
