Ever since I saw a picture on YNA that had a panther with wings starting from his pecs, I've started demonizing the classic wings-on-back design.
- It's overrated, thus I don't like it.
- It's anatomically questionable, performance-wise. I started wondering that the minute I saw that same picture.
- I also heard stuff that birds' wings are joined with the breasts, so that adds to the scrutiny.
Wings-on-back version has tacked on wings, I know. I'm a bias :c

It's supposed to be off, I figure. It's all a matter of aestetics.
No creature has wings on their backs, it's just not natural and much least practical.
I ain't much of a fan either, but sometimes it just works for the concept or it's a key feature that actually brings context.
Most people put in wings on things the same way that lens flare on photoshop.

I don't like the fact that I can't figure out where the additional shoulder joint goes (on either version, but especially on the right-hand version). Anatomically, neither makes much sense, but then again I'm one of those assholes who thinks that bat-furries should get 2-fingered claws halfway down their (single set of) wing-arms, and that bird-anthros need to be done up like archaeopteryxes or other clawy, wingy maniraptors :/
So she'd have to flap her arms as the same time as her wings.
Not really a good solution.
Not like those wings are going to support her weight anyway.
How about wings instead of arms?
Speaking of pet peeves...
"overrated,"
That is the stupidest word I've ever seen.
I'd recommend using the expression "I don't like it", which means the exact same thing and doesn't make you sound like a tool.

She could probably "hang" her arms into her wings, or by personal preference, she could try to look cool and have her arms sway back and forth very slightly. Also I'm a huge sucker for wings that can crumple up to compact sizes, so if given enough chances you will see my wing people with very tiny-looking tucked-away wings. I'm aware that physics says that you need a pretty large wingspan for anyone or anything without hollow bones.
Alas, "overrated" is used in the spoken circle of everyday life, so it's pretty much ingrained into my head. I'll take note of your suggestion, though.
