i am so tempted to build that.

the last time i did such a thing, it was a ridiculous hack
seriously. i ripped apart a dimmer switch, fed the triac gate through a trimmer network with a cds photocell
used a spare amplifier to drive an incandescent lamp taped to the photocell
driving two 300w floodlamps
if it weren't for behavioral asymmetry due to the trigger level, it would've been cool
that was probably ten years ago

Interesting way to opto-isolate something in a mcgyver way btw. Maybe with a LED could be work better ?
