@ PeachClover - If they were natural donkeys, then I doubt Rusty would portray it as a bad thing. In this particular case, these are little boys forced to wear the forms of donkeys (aside from Lampwick at the end).
And his mother didn't say anything of the kind. She just said she wasn't ready to be a grandmother (of humans or donkeys). No doubt, when Lampwick is fully mature, she would understand that she couldn't force him to avoid that part of life - but right now, he's still a kid/teenager. It's a metaphor of underage kids engaging in such behavior, and I think it's largely agreed that such things are undesirable.
Why does it seem that you are determined to prevent anyone from enjoying Rusty's stories? Every one of your comments I've read on these stories have been negative.
