OI I REALLY LOVE THESE ICONS
Can I ask a few things? Okay great
First off, what are these animated in? Obviously it kinda seems like you drew them in MSPaint, but the fluidity of the animation strikes me as flash-like so I imagine they are animated in flash. (I apologize if I am wrong but I am just guessin' here)
Secondly, uh.. I don't really know which ones were commissioned and which ones weren't so I dunno if some people were making them theirselves or whatever.
So, uh, would it bother you if I attempted to make one myself? I dunno if it matters at all but I just noticed some artists get bothered about people ruining their styles and stuff (I am just trying to be polite) but I'd probably study the overall animation and such really closely before I go to do it :B
So uh, yeah! If you don't mind me making one I'd really like to know what tools you used to make it 'n all that so I can be as closed to the originals as possible.

Actually, I do these in photoshop; it has an animation window. They're very fluid when you put enough time and effort into them, but that would mean high concentration, a keen eye, and dedication to making it look right, and that takes time time time. This one took me about 4 hours because I was stuck with how to go about juggling the layers to make it look right <_<
I can't really stop an artist from doing this or that, and I'm quite fine with you trying to make your own cause I'm not a monopolizing corporate asshole :3

Haha I figured! After reading over my comment I kinda wanted to take back what I said, because it's obviously bare-bones pixelwork for the animation. The stretchyness and stuff sorta reminded me of flash, but it's pretty obvious it wasn't, derp.
I'm sure I know quite a lot about puttin' effort into animations, actually! In fact, animating is probably something I put more effort into than anything else art related. I make many more sprites than I do traditional art (although I rarely ever submit anything so my animated sprites are never seen, durp) and one of my favorite things to do is animate, and I usually do at least a minimum of 8-12 frames. I really don't think this'll be an issue for me, I'm kinda pumped to try one out ahahaha.
Anyway, since it's all just bare pixel work I should be able to do it in GraphicsGale since it has an animation editor, layers etc etc. ALL THAT FUN JUNK I COULD USE.
I think what really makes these look all great and fluid is the small uses of secondary motion (i.e., you can see the cheek muscles pressing up against the lower eyelid) it's not exactly as in-depth as say, tsutsu-di's sprites, but the small addition of the muscle flexing gives it a much more detailed look.
