Found a solitary Candy Apple Bolete (also called Frost's Bolete), and have discovered the new winner of "Best, Most Interesting Stipe" in the mushroom world.
Seriously! Look at that reticulation! And all candy-apple red! The little amber droplets from the pores glinting makes it an even prettier species, geez. OwO
And yes, this fantastic beaut is an edible species! Be sure all three parts of any mushroom like this you find are a deep reddish--a look-alike with yellow pores can be iffy for many people.

^^ Shame they do. I've found a lot I had to leave because of that white mold.
I think the beginner rule for boletes is simply "avoid any with red pores, and any that stain a blue color", and it'll keep you away from the two toxic ones. Of course, this one breaks that rule but I'm confident enough in this species to eat it anyways. XD And those Wrinkled Boletes pass both rules so they're extremely welcome finds!
