the DH class was built to finally displace the last of the Steam locomotives which by this time had been religated to the shunting yards and the few branchlines that could not take the heavier Diesels. The unit pictured here is DH2, the first of the production order that eventually delivered 73 of these outstanding 40 ton shunters.
Today they have been mostly retired and are popular with heritage and tourist railways.

Walkers Ltd or Marybourogh QLD. This was a 'make or break' design for them because after they took so long to build the last order of Steam Express locomotives and then the cost and deadline overruns on the 1170 class QR had not ordered any more machines from them and they were feeling it. This design basically saved the company
Hi,
Are you a railfan? I've been a railfan for many years and love trains, I also model in "O" gauge, which is 027 - 048 scale and I also have a 1.5 inch scale train that I ride on and go to different Live Steam clubs around the country. I live in the states, judging from your description of the loco, you must be from either England or Australia, I know both countries have a lot of railfans there. Like to hear from you.

Hi Redtail,
I'm in Illinois, USA, just been going through your picture gallery and I it's just terrific. It's nice to meet a fellow railfan from another country. I love steam as well as diesels, I have been railfanning since the early 70's and have taken videos of all the trips I've been on and places I railfan all over the USA since 1982. On July 24-27 I attended Steam fest at the Steam Railroading Institute in Owoso Mich, they had eight steam engines running with 3 main line steamers giving all day rides. The SP 4449 a GS-4 4-8-4 came from Portland Oregon, the Nickel Plate Berkshire 2-8-4 765 from the North Juddson Indiana museum in Indiana, the 1225 Berkshire 2-8-4 which is housed at the SRI museum, plus 3 0-4-0's switchers (shunters), the Levaithan 4-4-0 built by a person for 10 yrs (absolutely gorgeous in red & gold trim) and a 2-6-2 Prairie which gave short 1 hr rides at the event. It was the steam event of the century, until another more larger event in the future overdoes what they did in July if ever. If I can figure out how to post some of my videos in FA I would do so. Right now as I'm writting to you I can hear 2 CSX freights blowwing for the xings just east of me, sounds really nice. It's 12:45 AM here right now in the midwest, what timew is it where you are? And how's the weather this time of year? Take care and keep in touch if you want.

Hi Redtail,
Thanks very much for the youtube.com link to your site, really loved the RR videos and the aircraft videos were a real nice surprize. I too like aircraft, as a matter of fact I'm a QA engineer on aircraft and have been in the aerospace field for 30+ yrs. The tribute to the Grumman F-114 Tomcat bought back good memories as I worked on that aircraft at Grumman Aerospace back in the late seventys in the QA/QC engineering dep't in manufacturing. I've been around the world once working on different aerospace projects, only place I haven't been is Australia, maybe someday I'll get there. Take care & keep in touch.
