...and they were gone. This pair were damnably hard to get a good pic of, they flew by so quickly. They were part of the avian show at the San Diego Animal Park: a gorgeous blue and gold macaw and a green-winged macaw, flying in well-trained tandem. :)

Aww, too bad you didn't get to keep him. Unfortunately, nothing was done to solve the "he went evil" part. Whatever "training" went in to making him that way will have to be dealt with and hopefully, corrected. Giving him away only passed the hot potato to someone else. I hope he's alright, though- I love big birds like that, but the noise would drive me bonkers, unfortunately. The sound-level at the aviary where I worked was insane.
Sweet! Glad to hear he's doing ok. They're bright birds and pretty high maintenence, if I remember right from working at an aviary back home. They had a blue and gold, Hyacinthine, admiral's, and green wing macaws. They were some of the coolest birds they had there. I still have the scar from my first day when an African Grey with an attitude tried to take a chunk out of my arm. The whole scene was hilarious, actually- see, I hadn't noticed I was being bitten, I was concentrating on feeding his cage-mates, and the lady showing the ropes starts squaking "He's biting you! He's bting you!" I look down and sure enough, the little prick's got is beak buried in my forearm. Heh. Afterward she asked me if it hurt, I poked it and said, "Nope. It's already numb..." That job was fun.
The smell I got was different- more a slightly sweet/sour dustiness. I liked it, actually. And I wasn't scared off by the African Grey's attitude- he was too hilariously grumpy for me to hate him, either. We had another Grey that "answered" the phone: whenever it rang, he'd yell out "Ring, ring, hello? Prairie Aviaries... Dennis! Phone!" Cracked me up every time he'd go through that whole routine. He'd hang upside down in his cage, chuckling at me whenever I came by to laugh with him over his joke. That was his way of saying he was having a good time.
