Well... the rest of his family died thousands of years ago, so technically his entire family is present. 'Road Trip' is a bit of a stretch too I guess.
Decent look into the world/story I'm making here. This guy is a merchant. Most times you see merchants travelling in large bands between settlements, riding atop large desert beasts. People tend to travel with these merchant groups because the large numbers make the them a difficult target from bandits.
This guy here has figured out that he doesn't need friends if he can outrun any attackers.
