well, for starters, no, this is not a story. This piece of work is more or less a database of published stories. yes, I got bored somewhere along the line, and decided to create this list. The list you are about to read is the largest furry/anthro related list of novels in existence. It is also among the best arranged list of anthro books and also the most up to datel. I cannot take all the credit for the books on this list as many were submitted by various websites, forums, existing lists, and similar places online. My guess count plants the number of books somewhere around 1500
A few notable websites I could mention and offer thanks for the help are:
- The Pack http://www.thepacksden.com/thepackboard/
A werewolf oriented forum with a huge interest in werewolf movies, games and books. I have added over 100 books just suggested by these folks that center around werewolf related subjects. I do consider werewolves a legitimate furry interest, despite a bit of dispute someone had with this fact.
Planetfurry forums: http://www.planetfurry.com/forums
a furry forum with a wonderful group and lots of social folks. It was the old home of this list until I realized I was having too much trouble maintaining the list using a forum. I needed a better way to update and maintain the list, so I set this whole bit up.
- Dave Farrance's list http://groups.google.com/group/rec......15f00579bcafae
for a while, it was the largest and best maintained list in existence, but I quickly merged it into mine and it has been a godsend in helping find books to add to this list because oftentimes, I just found sequels to the books already posted to his list. Dont know what happened to this guy, but I raise my glass to him for getting this far.
- "Anthrozine's ultimate Anthropomorphic Checklist" book database
http://anthrozine.com/site/lbry/fur.....ecklist.s.html
This one was a huge help, though I did end up snipping a few pieces that didnt fit in with my explicit need to stick to novels. Some of them were outright comic books or comic anthologies. I believe that I have kept all of the suggested graphic novels, but I might have been a bit drunk when I reviewed this list, so if you see a graphic novel on here that isnt on my list, say something as I probably was off the wall when I snipped it out. I would like to stick to graphic novels though that were mostly text based(as in over 50% text) like "Wolf Boy: A Novel" by Evan Kuhlman. He also had a few doubles, but I cant complain with all the help this list gave me in this project.
-Swandog's anthropomorphic list http://swandogstudio.com/books.html
Unfortunately, despite being a massive list, this one has been the hardest to incorporate into my own list because I have found a good sized quarter of these books that dont have anything to do with anthro/furry material AT ALL. Ive had to review them individually bit by bit and somewhere along the way, I kinda did give up on these books for the moment. Sorry folks, but Moby Dick was not furry, anthro, or anything of the sort. Yes, I read it, and I dont know how anyone could believe otherwise. Thats just one book on there that didnt quite fit.
So yeah, This list was created not for publicity or your gratitude(though such things wont be discouraged :P ), not JUST for my own amusement, but also for your amusement. I did this primarily because I know there are a lot of struggling furry writers who probably either want inspiration in the form of other anthro related books, or would like to see that their existing published material gets noticed a bit more. So, with that in mind, I have created this list to promote the existence of PUBLISHED FURRY/ANTHRO NOVELS.
I capitalize that because there are going to be a lot of you who are going to say "hey, ive got a story i wrote and posted to yiffstar, can you add it?" The answer will be no, for the simple reason that your story is not published in a hard copy format. No offense to electronic publishers, but the reason I do this is because there are millions of stories posted to the internet, that would be next to impossible to keep track of. Its the same reason I did not try to maintain this list with comic books added in. There are simply too many out there, and this is difficult enough as it is just keeping track of the straight up novels that are published as the days go by, along with finding older books that few people are aware exist. I also ask that nobody suggest any children's picture books. Children's and teenage level novels are acceptable, but dont start sending me Dora the Explorer book suggestions because there is a talking cat or something. I do invite someone else to pick up the whole "comic book list" option and try and find all the furry/anthro related comic books out there. Id suggest sticking to published material though.
You will likely find a few notations in there such as underlining and bolding to specify which books I own or are specifically searching for. This isnt really for any of you all, but more or less for my own purposes. Primarily for a paperbackswap site I am a member of. I needed a way to tell other members what books I am searching for. This is the final reason im posting this here. I needed a way to send this document to other people im trading books with. I happen to be trying to acquire all of the books on this list, as impossible as that might sound.
I also invite anyone to make suggestions that you have heard of if you know of a furry/anthro related book. If you know of a book, please make sure it fits my criteria for being "furry" Dont worry, its fairly broad, so you shouldnt have any trouble applying one of the 5 anthro related descriptions to it.
I have posted this description at the beginning of the list, but Ill post it here for additional reference. This is the same description that Dave Farrance used for his list, with two additional criteria added in.
For the list, I'm defining a "furry novel" as a novel containing at least one major furry character/plot thread - the presence of humans will not be grounds for disqualification. I realize that this is a rather broad definition, but I'd rather the definition be too broad than too narrow.
I've arranged the list into these categories of furriness:
1) Animals behaving intelligently - This type of story deals with animals in their natural forms showing innate intelligence.
Example: _Watership Down_ by Richard Adams.
2) Intelligent Animals - These stories deal with animals in their natural forms who, through methods scientific, magical or other, are able to express their intelligence in interactions with humans and/or other "intelligent" species.
Example: _Startide Rising_ by David Brin. (True, dolphins have no fur, but they *are* mammals, which, IMHO, make them ex officio furries.)
3) Intelligent Animalmorphs - These stories, obviously enough, deal with anthropomorphic species.
Example: _The Pride of Chanur_ by C. J. Cherryh.
4) Animal or Animalmorph transformations - stories involving or including creatures or people that transform into some kind of animal or animalmorph.
Eample: werewolves, or Animorphs' shapeshifting people
5) anthropomorphic personality aspects applied in a serious manner(non childish) to a non intelligent object or animal. I include this because there are rare instances of novels including sapient behavior exuded by objects that otherwise would not do this. It is extremely rare though to see it applied in a serious setting. I find this to be one of the more fascinated aspects of anthropomorphism in literature.
Again, I do not presume to be an expert on this subject, this is a personal project that I did to pass the time, and eventually decided to share with other furries online. My only hope is that it will encourage many of you to pick up reading anthro related novels more. I also offer an E-cookie to the bored furry who can sit down and count these. yes, Ill update the list as the days go by, but for now, im kinda curious what my exact number is.
PS, yes, I know, I got rid of all the ISBNs for the simple reason that each book has multiple ISBNS, and it would just be one other random freakin thing id have to keep track of.
ENJOY FOLKS!!!!

no problem, might I suggest any of Paul Kidd's books. All were excellent, as were the spellsinger series, the Jane Lindskold Wolf series, and also the chanur series of books by Cherryh. If you like werewolf stuff, you will deffinitely get a kick out of Wolf Moon. Its among my favorite books. My first favorite though is Whisper of Wings by Paul Kidd. Absolutely marvelous story, characters, and detail. Its one of those books with a satisfying ending. Not happy or joyful, but just satisfying, like you know the book is great, just the way it is.
I am now holy intrigued by this books for cheap, if they have the works of Tieheard the first on there for cheap I am definitely in (bad joke I’m filled with them sorry). Yeah read all of good Mr. Kidd both before his rats and his new stuff off of Kitsune press. He’s on FA some where if you can find him. Yeah kind of safe to say I’ve read 90% of that list. I am as insane as that sounds. Though I am a hard man to please by tomes, its hard enough keeping books unread.
For you, and for everyone else who might be interested in getting more books to read for dirt cheap. Yes, this method works, and its also completely legal. I would advise you to make sure you check out the used book stores first and find out what in particular they sell the most of, so that you arent giving them books they cant sell. You want to see the book store make money off the trade you bring them. Not only will they sometimes give you better credit for the books, but also they will stay open for longer and make money more. The success of these businesses is key. Id also suggest encouraging your friends to shop at these stores too, if you know of anyone who likes to read.

List updated on 11/4/09 I added over 5 dozen books in the realm of romance and erotica. Please feel free to submit more books if you can think of some that need to be added.
Also, if you see a book that does not belong, please say so and say WHY you believe it doesnt belong on this list. Ill make a decision using book reviews and what you have told me on the book in question.
also, as a last note, if you wish to use this to discuss or suggest your favorite books, please feel free to do so.

no prob, spread it around to any freinds you have who like to read. I posted it for two reasons, one, for the enjoyment of the furry community and as a way for my relatives to have access to my wishlist of books. I really do want to see furs enjoying more books. i think that a lot of authors out there just go unknown because furs either never heard of them, or just dont have the interest to pick up reading a lot of books. I hope to remedy both. i think a lot of these books are marvelous novels worthy of their place on this list.
UPDATE:
For those of you who actually check this. Ill be posting an update to this list with about 10 new books added, plus Ive found that someone actually put together a list of furry related comic books, which is excellent, so I plant the link here for anyone to enjoy checking them out. Granted, im sure this list is horribly outdated and incomplete, but its the most complete comic book database ive seen so far relating to furry fandom.

Update applied 7:45AM EST, , 2/2/2011 Quite a few new books added. Ill have to start keeping track of the books I add with each update, but for now, they are up there.
Few I remember adding
"Star Dog"
the 3 books in Alan Dean Foster's Catachist series.
and "David and the Phoenix"

Im about to start reviewing the Swandog big time and I could use some help if anyone actually views this anymore. These are the books that I found in Swandog's list, and since I started reviewing his list a few years back, I found over a dozen books I was positive DO NOT involve anthropomorphics. Leaving this in mind, Ive set his list on the backburner until I could get around to going through it completely. Ive already sorted about half of it, but there are still plenty more to go. The following are the ones I havent checked yet or couldnt say for sure from what I could google.
If you see any you recognize as furry, or if you are sure one of them is NOT furry, please respond to this post. FYI, its still formatted as he had it on his page, so sorry about the strange organization. Ill delete this comment later if at all possible once ive reviewed some of these.

Its been a while since I actually "updated" it, but Im still reading books frantically digging through stuff trying to find info on books to add, infact, Im on here for that very purpose, to read through Swandog's list and pick out some more books to read before I decide their fate. Currently, the most noteworthy addition that I found on the Swandog list is The Belgariad series by David Eddings. It is riddled with animal transformation related stuff, so yeah, it qualifies. Either way, post your list, and when I get the time, Ill add it to the main product. Im hoping to post an actual update soon, but I lost my pin drive, and with it, about 10 books I read and were gonna add to the list(dont worry, I read others, but those were the books I wanted to add).
Sounds good. >^_^< The list (not actually mine, just one I've added things to) is here:
https://www.goodreads.com/list/show......Furry_Fiction
It's mostly works published within the fandom, though it might help you catch up on the last few years of stuff.

In the interest of speeding things up, and because Im tired of looking for my PIN drive(I had a document saved on it with both copies of my updated list, and all updates I was gonna post to this list), probably had between 10-20 books to add to this list, so yeah, Im kinda pissed at losing that.
anyways, Im making this post here for the purpose of documenting books off swandog's list that I confirmed belong to my list. Ill update the main list as soon as I get a substantial amount, and maybe locate that damned pin drive. Please do not reply to this particular post, I need an online place to store additions so that I dont forget things again. Will be updated as I go along.
Swandog Confirmations:
*The Belgariad (wolves, owl) -- David Eddings (animal Transformation)
Greenmantle (morphic stag)-- Charles DeLint
Homecoming saga (evolved bats and rats) -- Orson Scott Card
*Raptor Red (velociraptor) -- Robert T. Bakker
I also need to check the following for updates to the list(new books that were printed)
Various Dresden Files books(cant remember if I added these, but they have some werewolf shapeshifter characters, not to mention a few animalistic Fey characters.
Percy Jackson books.
and on a side note, I have to remove "Fluke" while it was a good book, so far into it, there is no sign that the whale actually is anthro, intelligent, or personified, so while the online summary kinda spoke "anthro" and I took a chance, it turned out false. Ill finish reading that book and then remove it if necessary.

and on ANOTHER side note.... I have to forget about removing fluke, because just after posting that, I got about 10 minutes further into the book, and found that the book DOES involve anthro whales.... no really... it does..... I was kinda speechless on that, but hey, they are there... and totally sarcastic about being there too. Most amusing anthro side characters ever.... and for those of you who have whale fursonas, I pity the poor saps who get into bed with you.... Dear god those things are huge!
