You know, I'm kinda surprised the prisoners didn't think of overpowering your character, unless her abilities also somehow lock them into place, should such thoughts occur to them, which would then make sense for why she/you is/are so confident about touching them to alter their forms.
Ah thank you so much for this question! I too am curious in stories and I love hearing the background information. I have some ideas as to why the prisoners don't try to escape. ^-^
The inmates have gone through the full legal system of being arrested, jailed, sentenced and all that jazz. They know that if they try to run, there is no where to go really. They would be caught and any struggling would just lead to misery. Just like if a prison inmate tried to pull some move to escape or overpower a prison guard, they won't likely make it. In Mr. Rose's mindset, this is just another 'prison'. Most of the prisoners think this way, and don't try anything.
HB definitely isn't alone, but she doesn't need guards. (Inmates don't know that when they arrive.) You're very spot on with her magic abilities locking them into place! The farm is full of magic and the inmates can't cross the threshold. This can take the form of them not being able to physically cross the limits due to 'force field' type effects, or as they reach the boundary, they forget what they are doing and turn around, or they don't even think of it. Mr. Rose probably has no objection to being touched considering he probably experienced far worse during his actual arrest and jail time. (Inmates are sentenced to come here by chance, up to the discretion of the judge. So not everyone comes to the farm, just a lucky few.) Plus, the gentle touch a woman isn't too bad, hehhe. I don't know his sexual preference, but HB is pretty chill and isn't very intimidating. Which is quite misleading considering these magical powers of hers, muwhaha! (HB is indeed me, but I don't have magic powers so sometimes I like to refer to her as a separate entity) She does indeed have plenty of confidence though!
I think being sent to the farm is a much better sentence than regular prison time. There is a chance for reform, what with the change in perspective so to speak. ;3 It is 'hard labor' but they sure do gain some anatomy benefits to make it much easier. Their whole lives change while there, and that is her goal. To give them a chance to redeem themselves and learn. If I add some history to this realm, I can see that perhaps a handful of inmates choose to stay, feeling that this life better suits them and they can contribute to their community better. I'm not sure what Mr. Rose will choose in the end, but I hope everyone enjoys his transformation from human to horse just as much as me. ^__^
Thank you for pondering these questions with me! <3

Thank you for pondering these questions with me! <3
My pleasure. Thank you for explaining them. So, if they do choose to stay on, does that mean that they stay as farm animals, as human farm hands, or as something in between? Also, would they eventually get a bit of magic themselves, should they prove worthy/get enough exposure from the farm itself? (For those that stay, I mean, not from the inmates that would clearly do all they could to overcome their situation.)
Ooooo loving these questions! :D
For those who choose to stay, they are welcome to remain an animal or become human again, which ever form they feel fits them best to be their best. I'd say a handful stay as an animal and the rest decide to go back to human form. The only magic they would retain is their ability to speak if they stay as an animal, and if they turn back into a human, they are protected by the magic on the farm. (No harm comes to them, life is peaceful, they can interact with both regular animals and transformed human animals.) HB is the only one with the magic to transform, but everyone benefits from it and the power in the land. ^__^

Most interesting. I love it. Though it does beg the question. How does she protect the land from any others who might seek to exploit it. If she has magic, does that mean others might as well and want what her land has to offer, or is it more like the wild magic that acts as it will and works with her because it likes her/chooses to let her? Ah, so many questions.
Ah I love all these questions! It honestly helps with world building, gets the creative juices flowing. :D
I'd say its the latter of those ideas. The land itself is magical and protects itself. Perhaps HB stumbled upon the land when she was younger, and the land chose her to instill some of its powers. So its not a matter of whether or not HB can gives the power to others or protect the land herself. It is all encompassing and sufficient. HB can just act as an extra hand. And she discovered the magic of the land is great for reforming those who are lost and can be a better alternative than the US prison system.
