I wrote this story after I read a recent news article detailing the discovery of a planet that may one day have the ability to support life. That article is here:

Thank you! I know the picture included with the story is only an artist's rendering, but I was really brainstorming about how to make the surface of the planet believable yet alien. Science fiction worlds are tough but can be very rewarding.

Imaginative. You took this as far from "the tree" as possible. Yup, enjoyed this a lot, the panic bleeds through the text. The only place that made me to stop was when you call her astronaut. What if she is a cosmonaut? Or a taikonaut? "Space traveler" or some other general term would work better, in my opinion.

Planetary colonization seems to be a popular science fiction motif. It always hearkens back to the days of colonization around the Earth.
I actually planned it to be longer, but wanted to test the waters with this short introduction to see who would enjoy it. I have received a favorable response, so the next parts will definitely be written. I know how it's supposed to end, but I'm not sure how many events will occur before then.
