Figured I'd post a couple of pictures of the beginnings of a sculpture I'm making.
This is the first figure sculpture I've made in almost four years (thw other was made from earthen clay and blew up in the kiln >.< ) and i figured, what better place to start than good ol' Anubis?
Besides, he's going to end up being and belated birthday/Christmas present for my boyfriend, so he'll have a loving home once he's done. I'll be taking more pictures as I move further along in the process. I really like sculpting...it's a lot less stressful than drawing...and i never feel like I make mistakes I can't fix or work out...unlike my drawing....so this is good for me. Plus...it's anatomy practice...something I kinda hate to do in drawing...so double yay.
He's still got a long way to go and tons of tweeking to what I have to get him looking right...oh...and by the way...it will be a naughty sculpture too ;)

No, you have to bake it for it to harden, but you can do it in any conventional oven, so no kiln is needed. Infact...my sculpture teacher in highschool experimented with sculpey baked in a kiln at it's lowest setting...turns out the stuff burns like bread dough....it came out charred black and bubbly....but that's neither here nor their.
But yeah, just bake and paint...but you can also get stuff called sculpey three in tons of different colors...but that stuff gets a little goopy when worked with for a long time and it's hard to keep the lighter colors pure when working with darker, bolder colors, especially red.
