So yes, the Godzilla 2 trailer came out recently. Lots of blue in it, Charles Dance is absolutely not playing Tywin Lannister in there, a rather interesting choice of music, Washington DC somehow managed to get even worse than it already is. The redesign of the titular creature can be summed as seen above. Not really a fan of it.

Okay, since that image, title and description might imply my dislike for the redesign stems from the mass increase, it doesn't. 95% of it is the oversized, deformed plates, 5% the blue-glowing eyes while charging.

I don't quite... get the story? They want to find the titans... to wipe out the infection...which is humans... so they want to kill off themselves? Because it kinda sounds like they want to find them to wake them up?

It's taken out of context and poorly re-worded.
Basically, Humans wake up Ghidorah because we can't stop fucking with things. Ghidorah wakes up and, unlike Godzilla who naps for ages, he's an extinction event since he re-shapes the environment to his liking.
Therefore the lady is saying to awaken the titans (all the known DaiKaiju) to hopefully combat this terrible creature.

But I suppose there was no way to NOT make him look like he has a massive gut if he was to fire his breath straight up. In 2014 he only ever lifted his head at an angle. They could have made the breath shot put less emphasis on his fatty reserves if it was a frontal shot instead of a profile.

Methinks you're right about that. All the other takes with him in it look the same as the G14 design, just that one scene (which was released as a still image beforehand) had him look fatter. On the other hand, it's not too bad, as it looks more streamlined that way.
With the lack of the human point of view where we're constantly looking up at him as was the case of 2014, and as you said, the WIP still image not looking the same in motion, it makes his form look a bit different.
But yeah, the other scenes that are more ground-level look very close to the shots from the 2014 film.
