Another wave bubbled over her feet. The water was shockingly cool compared to the bright sun overhead. Fragments of memory jumbled through her thoughts as the wave lapped lazily up her sides. Memories of other waves washing over her, of thirst, of hunger. Many memories, she had been lying here for a while.

Another wave bubbled over her feet. Welcome relief for her sun-soaked, brown-furred body. More memories began to return. Waves. And a shadow, shaking her.

Nothing but waves now. Bubbling over her feet, washing lazily up her sides.

"She hasn't moved at all! I told you!" A child's voice. The voice of the shadow. Full of worry then, tinged now with assurance.

"She must be from the ship." Adult voice, female. Soothing. There were no memories of a ship, however, only waves. She knew what a ship was, somehow. But could not remember how she knew.

"But how did she get here?" The child again, a hint of accusation in their tone. A youth not entirely sure they're being told the truth.

"Over the reef, obviously. I wouldn't have thought anyone, even an Otter, could have managed a swim like that in last night's storm." Otter. She was an Otter. Short, brown fur. Thick, muscly tail. Fiery red hair.
