I hope this isn't rude, but I think you mixed up the gem colors in the little chibis at the bottom since they are meant to match the plumage highlights right?

In the case of a normal Apporan (their race) the gems (and the eyes) would match the plumage, that is correct. But these two are twins. In the case of twinning, there are other concurrent mutations that occur, which include the swapping of eye coloration and gemstone type between the twins. In the extraordinarily rare (near-nonexistent) case of triplets or more, the coloration shifts in a round-robin sort of fashion. Hope that was helpful!
