Righto, semi-completed cars for you to enjoy.
[BMW Gina]:
This car was originally pixelled from scratch - I then shunted it through PhotoShop and Paint.net to give it sparkly effects and such.
In total, it took half a day straight from having to build a floor plan from reference shots - they had no available blueprints/topdown photos that I could find in Google - all the way to adding the finishing touches, and shading.
To put it short, this was my first actual GTA:L car done without tutorials, and completely by me :D
[BMW M3 TOURING CAR]:
As crazy as it sounds, the original source image was a BMW-M5. The artist who originally drew the base did a better job at shading an M5 than artists who shaded M3's.
So I set out to round off the corners, set the body back while extending the hood, and adding various things (such as the spoiler, dark matte roof, and altered wing mirrors). To finish it off, I digitally hand-painted a light map to which I applied a Sepia tone filter (Looks more realistic IMO).
The base artist is 'GtAkReYz', so most of the credit goes to him. Once I have created some deltas (door animations and 'broken panel' segments) I shall email him a zip file with both the car, and deltas inside.
[Mercedes CLK TOURING CAR]:
This was perhaps the easiest do-over. The bodywork was fine, as was the shading - all that was missing was the reflect metallic blue paintjob, decals, and Touring car bodykit (including the spoiler).
The only set back that I had with this one was that I had only enough time to get one reference shot of the actual car.
The base artist is yet again 'GtAkReYz'.
>This is only a WIP - please comment/critique so that the gift that I am working on for GtAkReYz (BMW M3 Touring car, and the Mercedes CLK Touring car) becomes as perfect as I can get it, thanks :3

Hmm, the only thing I can see that could probably evoke a critique is the Mercedes spoiler supports that need, in my opinion, to be a little more accentuated, maybe done in thicker/darkened lines, so they stand out better. The way they are now, they are too thin, and thus the spoiler itself is not instantly obvious.
In all other ways, very nifty cars indeed! ^^ I really need to get myself the old GTA game and the add-ons (which I didn't even knew existed before I searched for the GTA:L you mention), was one of my favourite games in the past (though I never finished it, was a too short-attention-span teen ^^;)!

*blinks* Dammit, how did I miss the struts on the Mercedes spoiler? xD
I'll edit them in, thanks for notifying me :)
GTA:1/L is a great game, truly a turning point in gaming history - but being the car physics whore I am, I prefer GTA2 (better physics IMO). Too bad the art in GTA2 looks like shit (brown clay), especially the cars.
When I get time (which will be rarely) I will try to replace the crappy car sprites of GTA2 with sprites like these.

No prob, I'm glad to help ^^;
Yeah, GTA:1 gave life to a whole different approach in game-making, like Dune II did with strategy games (being the first real-time strategy).
I know there was a reason that kept me from playing GTA2, and the graphics you mention could really be the one (as I was mostly relating on the visual like/don't like when playing games back then, and begun to admire good physics a lot later). Would love to see your GTA2 car sprites and maybe have a go at GTA2 as well! :)
