Dr. Roux Labet is a smart and sophisticated gnoll alchemist who spends much of his time contemplating the true nature of monsters, and what makes a monster 'monstrous'. He is a skilled alchemist and has a strong understanding of chemistry and biology. He's even been invited to speak about the nature of monsters at a prestegious elven academy! (Boy were they surprised to find out he was a gnoll.)
Roux keeps his true nature hidden from the world. In truth he takes a regular mutagen that suppresses the true beast within him, it keeps him from reverting back to the filthy, slavering monster of a gnoll that everyone believes he is, that he desperately wishes he could escape.
But a second mutagen can undo some of that restraint, set the beast free in a way that he can control when he needs to.
