Anup, another species for Hayven Celestia, has their species sheet complete, mainly because I now had enough information to fill out one of these things.
Yes, they're blatantly anubian jackals with some quirks. Listen, I'm here to have fun.

I have an older, brief species sheet for krakun that I plan on redoing but it'll probably be one of the biggest http://www.furaffinity.net/view/22924176/
Well, these guys are most certainly an interesting contrast to the last species you fleshed out. Very nice, I always appreciate a fellow synthesist (world-builder) who make the effort to bring about a remarkable and realistic diversity to their settings. Keep up the good work.
I can see Anups that are Albino as a trophy spouse or even kept in a harem as a treasure to one of his regard to their awe.
Lots of unique potentials for rod designs too, nice touch using it as a cultural icon. Even training pups with the bandages. Though I wonder, would an Anup pup hold his parents hands in public or hold onto the staff?

The concept of Total Awe is pretty interesting. I have to imagine that the day-to-day life of an anup looks pretty spartan and dour, with minimal decoration, plain, almost bland food, and comparatively dry entertainment, so that when they do enjoy something a bit more, it's all the more special.
It also suggests to me that their concept of an afterlife could be tied into being remembered, making a major historical impact, or otherwise inspiring some kind of awe in future generations. "The Most Interesting Anup in the Galaxy" would be a saint among them. Of course, this does imply that infamy works just as well, or at least has a place in their society with "good" and "bad" kinds of infamy that to other species looks like romanticizing bad people and bad deeds, not unlike Prohibition-era rum-runners and bank robbers. No doubt a source of intense theological debate.

Now that's the way to build a species! Incredibly imaginative and well thought through. Very few SF and fantasy writers put in a tenth of the effort that I see here.
I have to wonder about your process for creating the Anup. Did you figure it all out before writing, or did the details evolve gradually as you progressed with the text of the book?

Well I mainly needed a species for a particular scene that'd be hard to deal with (can't breathe their air or even come in contact with it) and needed a lot of weird quirks to facilitate the culture barrier (the main character is a linguist as one of his primary jobs but he only knows superficial details about the anup) and I came up with a lot of the details on the fly.
Ah, I get it. Thank you for the explanation, which was fascinating in its own right.
I already read 10,000 Miles Up and Skeleton Crew, and just bought Gre7g's second book as well. Now I can't wait for the Anup to appear in the Hayven Celestia universe. Rick, I don't know how you manage to maintain the levels of quality and inventiveness that you do, but I hope you never stop!

So restrictive subliminalists with an evil cult? cool! :D
I have a question if its all right? Are all their rods gold, or do some use other metals/materials? I imagine that replacing a gold rod is crazy expensive, or that other materials may be considered "lesser" to some extent as a social status symbol
