I figured an important part of Shadow and Berri's story is how they met.  So, I thought I'd tell it!  This is not at all supposed to be any sort of eloquent story or anything.  I just want to describe the details.  XD
(Also, I'm NEVER drawing a picture like this ever again.  This was absolute hell to draw...)

Shadow had a bit of free time one day, so he decided to eat at his favorite restaurant.  He was seated across from a very pretty white fennec with gorgeous blue hair and wearing a black dress.  She was sitting alone, browsing on her phone and eating breadsticks.  Looked like she was waiting for her date to arrive, since no one wears a dress to a restaurant just for the hell of it.  He thought whoever they are, they must be pretty lucky to be with her.  Oh, well.  He'll find someone eventually.  He ordered endless breadsticks, too.  They were his favorite at the restaurant, and he didn't plan on ordering anything else.
He noticed the fennec would occasionally glance over at him and smile.  He couldn't think of why.  He isn't the most attractive dude out there.  They both liked breadsticks, though.  That didn't really mean much.  Who doesn't like breadsticks?
A few minutes passed, and then suddenly, she started crying.  Her date must have dumped her over the phone or something.  Well, that's too bad for whoever they are.  But he wouldn't make assumptions, and he definitely wouldn't let her sit there and cry without trying to comfort her.  He walked over and sat in the empty seat and asked her what was wrong.

She apologizes for crying, and wiped her face with a napkin.  She tell him that her date canceled last minute, and that that was her only chance for her to get away, which confuses him.  She explains that her parents divorced years ago, and that she lives with her mom.  The fennec stops and introduces herself as Berri, and Shadow returns the introduction.  Berri then goes on to tell Shadow that she has powerful food magic, which Shadow thinks is "very cool."  But she says it's the reason her mom is so possessive of her.  She exploits her powers all the time.  Berri says that she (herself) is a gainer.  Shadow then tries to tell her in the least weird way possible that he is into gainers.  Luckily, she's flattered and not creeped out, but she tells him that her mom is incredibly cruel, insulting her and constantly punishing her for eating.
Shadow is shocked by this.  She's clearly an adult.  She doesn't have to put up with her abusive mother.  She can just leave.  Berri tells him that she's tried many times, but her mom won't let her.  She shows her a collar that she's wearing, and tells him it's a shock collar.  She tells him that her mom forces her to wear it, and whenever her mom catches her eating or trying to leave the house, she activates it.  He is clearly appalled.  That is definitely illegal in many different ways.  He asks why she doesn't take it off right then, but she says that it's locked.  That that isn't a problem for him, as he uses his magic to force open the lock, and he removes the collar.  She can't help but hug him right then.

He tells her that he must get her away from her mother, and asks if she wants to come back to his place if she wants.  He assures her that he isn't a serial killer.  She laughs and agrees enthusiastically.  They go out to the parking lot, and she asks where his car is, but he tells her that he didn't drive...  he FLEW.  He then uses his magic to lift them both into the air, which startled her, to say the least.  Soon enough, she started to enjoy it, though.  She was FLYING after all!
They flew past the apartment complex, which confused her.  But they soon after arrived at a sizable house, which Shadow declared to be his own, which awed Berri.  She wonders how he could afford it, to which he proudly tells her that he works multiple full-time jobs.
She excitedly explored the house, and when she was finally satisfied, she plopped down on the couch and told him that she can't possibly tell him how grateful she is.  He says it's no issue.  He's only home for a few hours every day and on the weekends, so she wouldn't be a bother.  But he goes back to say that she wouldn't be a bother regardless, because he'd enjoy her company, and that he gets pretty lonely on his own.  He then invites her to sleep in his bed.  He quickly rids any awkwardness by telling her that his powers allow him to "speed-sleep," and he gets a full eight hours of sleep in just five minutes.  So, she can use the bed since he won't be.

And, that's pretty much the most of it!  I might change the flow of the story to be a bit less awkward and such, but that's the general idea of it!
Later on, they officially start dating!  They tell eachother of their kinks, to which they're pleasantly surprised how perfectly they fit together!  She then tells him that she met and talked to her ex-girlfriend on a dating site for gainers, and then tells him that she's bi, of course.  She shows him her profile, on which he finds a few awkward photos to tease her about.  She then shows him her ex's profile, and they both agree that she is in fact very cute, and he says that she (her ex) is missing out!  Something abot that makes Berri a little bit uncomfortable, but he doesn't ask about it.
And that all goes on for a month or so, and all is perfectly well!  That is... until...
