Kobold Quest II was a well received sequel to the sleeper hit Kobold Quest 1. However many will be disappointed that it departs from the RTS resource management gameplay of the first game to instead be focused on a single character adventure game. The new gameplay opened the game to newer fans but alienated many fans of the original who felt that shifting the narrative to a single kobold cheapened the experience in the world. In the end while the game was financially successful it ultimately destroyed the series when Kobold Quest III: The Rainbow Eggs tried to combine the two gameplay styles resulting in two different combat systems that while colorful and aesthetically pleasing lacked any meaningful difficulty or depth. Still, the flaws of the future of the franchise cannot be tributed to this game and it is still remembered fondly by the fans.
