For bears, living in the wild is the best. But for some that isn't an option - the bears at the NABC cannot be released into the wild for a variety of reasons.

Here they have access to 2.5 acres of mostly natural Minnesota forest, the only non-natural parts being the pond, the waterfalls, and the individual enclosures. This lets the bears do some natural foraging and engage other behavior, such as digging dens and scratching up against the trees.

If you're a bear and you are going to be kept in captivity, this is a very nice place to be. The bears are well looked-after.
