I haven't talked to my friend about it, seeing as how it's her character. I think we might end up going with brass or something similar instead. Gold is kind of expensive, and it's a fairly soft metal. She hasn't sketched up the hand yet, so I'll have to wait and see until then.

well I said that because of the gold smithing/mining deal you mentioned. So it mean it would be accessable and could be like a upgrade everyone likes the turn in the story where the hero gets new toys to play with. :3 but I see your point about ti being a soft metal wouldn't be able to take a lot of abuse.

Exactly, but I think the brass might work because it is kind of gold coloured, would fit in with the time period, and can be easily accessorized. I'm keeping the gold idea in mind, though. I'm just not sure where it'll come into play yet.

since they are upgrading it anyways why not gild the brass in gold? you get a shiney new look and the hand will work then and you got durability. :3

Mm. Maybe. It's more of a complete rebuild than an upgrade. The original hand is a fake, a red herring. It can't really move much more than a mannequin's hand can, it's pretty much only good for posing. When they actually build the mechanical apparatus it's a combination of complex clockwork, electrical sensors, and other doodads that allows Vincent to basically control what would be an otherwise inanimate object with nerve and thought impulses alone. No small feat in the early 20's. He might be willing to drop even more money on making it pretty, but the guy's already pretty conspicuous, so I don't think that it would be a very good idea to be walking around with his wealth showing, so to speak.
