Winged soul – Kharssalkar the Wyvern
It is useful to read the description if you want to understand the meaning of the title.
This is another of those drawings I adore for being unique, like my drawing of Zovek the Spinosaurus. Also, I like size comparisons a lot. Even though Kharssalkar doesn’t look as big against Cleiron, it is as tall a 6-floor building.
Kharssalkar has a curious story that made me smile several times while I was drawing the wyvern on the canvas. It was gifted to Cleirion to be his pet after being found abandoned in a nest several weeks after he was born.
Kharssalkar was born with a defect in its wings that hindered him from developing an appropriate musculature in its wings and by that reason he was abandoned by its parents. Wyverns learn to fly weeks after being born since they are creatures adapted for flight. Kharssalkar had a second chance being Cleiron’s pet who was only 8 years old. Wyverns become very docile when they are not able to fly but they weren’t expected to live a long life because of wing related diseases.
When Clerion received the wyvern, he was very happy to have such a special pet but he also realized the wyvern didn’t like to be hugged and constantly ran from him and jumped from high places. At the beginning, Clerion thought it was a game and it liked to play and so he believed that for years.
But time passed, and the wyvern was growing rapidly easily surpassing Cleiron’s height. Nevertheless, Kharssalkar never stopped “playing” and soon those games started being more daring. Kharssalkar tried to move its wings despite them being so weak just to glide some meters. This started to draw Cleiron’s attention specially when the wyvern looked towards the sky and the birds that flew by.
When Cleiron got 14 years old he decided to abandon games and help the wyvern to, at the very least, hover better. The wyvern’s unbreakable impetus was fascinating because even when he fell and got hurt he always got up to try again. It was as it was born to persevere. Even more astonishing was that its atrophied wings were getting stronger and after some time he was at last able to open them completely with ease.
Even after achieving to glide well Kharssalkar was not satisfied and started to try to take fly with the thrust of tis own wings. This was an impossible task due to the condition of its wings, but the wyvern knew no limits and the only price to pay for it was time. He even was able to carry Cleiron on his back while gliding through valleys.
Years of perseverance without letting defeat win made Kharssalkar to grow almost as big as a normal wyvern. He exceeded his short life expectancy and its wings achieved the wingspan of an adult, his muscles were strong and ready for flight.
The day Kharssalkar surpassed the layer of clouds at the sky he flew like he was at an enormous white sea. Cleron felt over the back of that huge wyvern a sigh of peace and satisfaction. It was the first time Kharssalkar felt part of nature, as if he returned home.
The wyvern was born for flight and he never resigned to die on land. This example of perseverance is also what led to Cleiron to value and pursue his dreams

Vuela vuela! oh- owwww https://youtu.be/wkuo7-sefEQ?t=15 ahaha
He's done!!!! It really is great to see him finally completed! He really looks absolutely awesome! I just love how huge and strong he looks! I love his powerful legs and chest! His wings look stunning too! I would have loved to have him as a pet, I would have hugged him every time X3
Yep! Kharl (lol) is done x3. I remember I showed you the lineart.
And thank you! it's great to draw a very strong wyvern, you already know that I love giant creatures. He needs muscular legs because he has no arms and his legs carry all the weight.
I also love the armored chest~ ahaha.

Oh wow, this is the first time I've seen a creature who dwarfed Clerian in size. And yet through kindness and respect they became quite close. I love this story so much! What I would not give to have a wyvern companion like this. Though keeping him fed would likely be quite a task. :)
