Hm, maybe its just the colors. colors next to, or opposite each other (on the color wheel), usually look best together, and if there is allot of bright vibrant colors, its good to break it up with some darker ones. Making this look better could be as easy as changing the off white color to a darker green or purple. Its also easier to Simplify markings, bright complex markings can strain the eyes.
(Also colors that are not complementary or contrasting, can still look good together. my favorite example is a dark purple with a bright green)

no problem ^w^ another tip! if you look at pictures you like, and pixelate it, you could pic colors and make a pallet for something.
