When my Daddy became chief of that department in 1982, he thought that the generic shield patch was boring, so he brought out my grandfather's high school draft kit and designed what you see above. It was the first of its kind in both overall design and that it combines the maltese cross the represents firefighters with the snake on a pole that represents EMT's. The company that he commissioned to make them for the whole department liked it enough that they started using it in their advertising.
